Bibi was born in the middle of a brawl and he aims to continue that struggle without regard for the fact that some Israelis are asking for a review of the method if not his madness. This scrapper isn’t sucker enough to line up a fair fight and neither is he a silly boy who’d invite scrutiny into his tactics. What’s undeniable is that by stratagem or mere diplomatic pressure, financially embattled Greece is wallowing in his mire and could have done without more slimy PR. Papandreou’s government now sleep-walks into perhaps their final crisis before the fall.
Palestinians are the perennial losers in the soap opera, their purported rescuers being well-meaning people manipulated to service a media treatment instead of a political cure. So long as the conversation remains in the realm of nationalistic issues, dark forces can safely steer the global press clear of their test-drilling operations off Gaza’s coastline. A king’s ransom in natural gas is rumoured to be extractable each day from that zone so expect more inane talk of human struggle and ethnic strife and nothing at all about liquid cash!
It may be years before multi-national drilling platforms dot the coastal waters but Gazans have been pre-impaired by the practically professional peace militants who’ve captured their moment in the limelight no matter how this cookie crumbles. Most Flotilla protestors are sincere but for some it’s a cliche, meaning they check off the fashionable ‘issues’ in order to be able to say; “I was there!” and then rush back home to a heroic welcome and the next do-gooder fund-raising tour.
These proud art-t-shirt owners are the last people who want to be reminded what a bloodthirsty cutthroat Che Guevara was, “it’s the journey baby, not the destination” as 60′s gurus used to say. But look where the most avid of those pseudo-hippies ended up, broking on Wall Street, helping to export the entire American manufacturing base for personal profit and hollowing out the US economy. With friends like that, the Palestinians might be safer dealing with the devil they know.
