In the forgotten classic by George Mikes, the British have a lot to answer for. The detached island culture was once unique and admired from both near an afar. The world has changed and Britain has led the way in many respects but to the detriment of almost everything good about the place, saddest of all, captured mainstream press.
Responding sensibly to the voodoo-laced incantations of mainstream ‘expert’ pundits or the latest dreary economic news leaves one no choice but to seek wisdom from the past, therefore our incredulous headline referring to the Telegraph’s indefensible headline. No one on either side of the Atlantic is shocked that the UK economy is tanking. The markets are transparently rigged in favour of the PTB. What gives?
George Mikes wrote that the British would never be so rude as to confront a fantasist. The reply to the incredible would always be low-key, e.g. “Well, that’s a strange story” whereas the Europeans would say; “You Sir are a Bloody Liar!”
